There are a lot of open source content management systems and blogging systems. WordPress is very famous for blogging but now it is also using as content management system and e-commerce solutions. I like wordpress because it is very easy to manage and user friendly. Following is list of few other cms for blogs and websites and these are open source.
Drupal is not just for blogging, it is a complete content management system and also using for e-commerce and social community sites. Drupal provides wide range of modules for e-commerce, video/photo galleries, mailing lists management etc.

I think drupal is mostly used for e-commerce sites. Completely agree with you Joomla is not a good choice for blogs.
