Check if item exists in list in Python.

In this article we will see different ways to check if item exists in list or not. Suppose we have following list.

lst = [“ab”, “cd”,”ef”,”gh”]

Check string “cd” exists in list or not by following condition.

If “cd” in lst:
   print “cd exists”

We can use ‘not’ keyword as following to check not exists.

If “xy” not in lst:
   print “xy not found in list”

We can also check element existence by counting that element as following.

lst.count(“cd”)

Above statement will return occurrence count of given element in the list.
That’s it. Hope this will help.
