How to get last month starting ending date using php?

We can find last month starting ending date by using php functions strtotime and date. For last month last we will use t format character in date function. Following are statements for starting and ending dates.

$start_date = date("Y-m-1", strtotime("last month"));
$last_date = date("Y-m-t", strtotime("last month"));

As we know every month starts from 1 so I give 1 in place of day and in second statement I give t that is for month’s last day.
